Summary of faxes from City of Dallas to Dallas District of the TxDOT Protesting TxDOT's 60 MPH speed limits

1-2-96 fax

(Click on the above link to see it.) This where Dallas formally requests 55 MPH speed limits on almost every highway within the loop even though their own speed zoning data (below) fully justifies 65 and 70 MPH limits.

3-4-96 fax

Contained a January 1996 Speed Survey apparently conducted by City of Dallas at various freeway locations within the city limits.

These are apparently 85th percentile speeds. Remember that all roads had 55 MPH speed limits then.

The fax contained this quote from Feb. 21: "Because of the concern that higher speeds increase accidents and deaths, Council should reaffirm their position and request that the Texas Transportation Commission set a lower limit of 55 MPH as originally submitted in December '95." This is pursuant to an apparent Dec. 13 city council ordinance that set a 60 MPH speed limit on the LBJ loop and a 55 MPH speed limit on every other highway within  the city limits.
